Welcome Letter for Parents and Students
August 31, 2014
Dear Parents and Students of ACA,
My name is Mr. Cory Hurst, and I will be teaching IB World History Years 1 and 2 and Theory of Knowledge Years 1, 2 and Elective. I am also the Extended Essay Coordinator. I am originally from the state of Michigan in the United States of America. I attended Michigan State University where I received a bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in political science, as well as a Michigan teaching certification. While I have taught in the United States, this will be my second year teaching at ACA in Kuwait. I could have very easily stayed in the United States to live and teach; however, it is my sense of adventure and my desire for knowledge that has brought me to Kuwait. I have thoroughly enjoyed living in Kuwait, thus far, and I look forward to learning more about Kuwaiti people, the history, and the culture.
Students of all learning styles will be reached in my class this year through a variety of instruction and assessment including: classroom discussions, readings, writing, PowerPoint lectures, collaborative learning, demonstrations, projects, quizzes, and tests. By using a variety of methods of instruction and assessment, I will strive to meet the learning needs of all students are met so that they can effectively reach their learning potential.
I am looking forward to a great year at ACA, full of learning and exploration! By the end of this class, students will be more knowledgeable about the history of the United States of America while also understanding how the history of America has had an impact on the rest of the world.
Throughout the year, I will be available to any parent who wishes to contact me. Please send an email to [email protected], visit my Contact page, or if you would prefer to meet in person, a meeting can be arranged after school.
Thank you very much, and welcome to US History!
Sincerely,
Cory Hurst
