The EE Café Concept
Rationale:
In order to ensure all American Creativity Academy IBDP students are on track to start writing their Extended Essays over the summer break, we are going to run a university-style panel presentation of their research findings to date. The aim is to help students narrow their research findings and give them a specific focus for the summer break. It is also an opportunity to identify those students who have not been on task and are behind schedule.
Format:
Each student is given 5-7 minutes to present their most up-to-date findings and research related to their EE before a panel of their EE supervisors, peers and parents. There will be two sessions running simultaneously which, in addition to myself, will be led by two to three other IB teachers, who will act as the principal supervisors.
Students will be required to inform the panel of the following:
Requirements:
Supervisors:
Supervisors are invited to come into the Café Session during the day to observe their tutees present their work. This will also count as a formal interview and an opportunity to fill in Form 4. A detailed timetable listing the time slot allocated to each student will be sent out with this letter. It would be greatly appreciated if you could come to the session listed for your tutee but feel free to pop in during the day to other sessions as it is a rewarding experience and good professional development into Extended Essays.
Café Snacks and Refreshments:
Refreshments and snacks will be available throughout the day.
Date: May 14, 2015

The EE Café Concept
- Students present their research question, chapter headings and snippets of interesting findings they may have come across in their reading with their peers.
- The student/parental audience will have an opportunity to offer comments and suggestions for improvements.
- It also offers an opportunity to students to learn about the different topics that are being research and consequently broaden their knowledge about different contexts and issues of global importance.
